For Parkinson's Disease

"Never give in!"

At the height of the Second World War (1941), Winston Churchill said: "Never give in!"

We want to empower patients and their caretakers to fight Parkinson's disease on the frontline of communication.

In short

Meet Winston, the speech coaching bot that improves the voice intelligibility of patients with Parkinson’s disease through automatic feedback and smart exercises, based on artificial intelligence and evidence-based therapies.

What are we looking for?

We are looking to test the efficacy of the tool:

  • Are you a speech therapist or neurologist looking for a technology to help patients?
  • Are you a patient with Parkinson's disease and want to practice and keep your ability to communicate?
  • Are you a concerned caregiver?
  • Are you a researcher who wants to analyse the results together?
  • Do you know somebody else who can benefit from this solution?

How can we help?

Patients with Parkinson's disease suffer from voice and speech impediments due to hypokinetic dysarthria (the underlying muscle movements for speech are present but are limited in range and amplitude). These difficulties impact their voice intelligibility: the voice gets softer, becomes monotone and hoarse. This causes the listeners having difficulty hearing what is said which, in turn, can impact the patient’s social interaction.

Research shows that patients need to learn to speak loudly while keeping a low pitch and a slow pace. For the best outcome, intense treatment by a speech therapist needs to be accompanied by practice sessions at home.

Winston helps improving the efficacy and increasing the adherence of the therapy:

  • Automated feedback on the daily exercises
  • Follow-up and guidance in consultation with the speech therapist
  • Keeping the patient engaged in a motivational setting

As a result, the self-reliance of the patient remains intact because:

  • they get to know their new voice (awareness);
  • they generalize the learnings of the speech therapy sessions in daily life;
  • the skills to speak loud, low and slow become a second nature thanks to frequent practice.

How it works

Based on artificial intelligence, statistical speech analysis and pitch tracking.

Backed by evidence-based therapies like:

  • Pitch Limiting Voice Treatment (PLVT)
  • Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) and Speak Loud
  • Interactive Metronome

Designed with security and privacy in mind.

Our dream

For us, the ability to communicate is the core of being human. We made it our goal to help people connect and converse with their loved ones in a meaningful way.

We apply our speech and voice analysis technology to help in the following areas:

  • Patients with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
  • People who suffer from a stroke (cerebral haemorrhage).
  • Individuals with a speech impediment.
